GRAHAM SLATER
Principal Broker
Graham's journey in the insurance industry has been driven by a singular goal: to find the best possible protection for his niche clients. This dedication saw him build one of Australia's largest martial arts group programs, beginning with Instrat IMAR Brokers.
His path of specialisation led him to hold senior broker and representative roles at some of the industry's most respected firms, including Horsell Brokers, PSC Brokers (WWSI), and the world's largest broker, Marsh Advantage. In each role, he was instrumental in building and expanding their specialist martial arts and fitness portfolios.
This extensive experience culminated in his move to United Insurance Group. Here, Graham has found the ideal environment, with the freedom to access a wider range of products and the collaborative power of a 50+ broker group. This structure is perfect for sourcing guidance on hard-to-place risks and finding solutions that others can't.
While his core passion remains protecting martial arts, fitness, and gym facilities, Graham's expertise has expanded to include Cyber, Tradie, Film/TV, and a full suite of personal lines such as Health, Life, and Income Protection.
Graham's knowledge is not just theoretical. He has served as an expert witness in claims, assisting insurers and legal teams. This gives him a profound, real-world understanding of how policies respond under pressure, allowing him to better protect business owners before an incident ever occurs.
He is passionate about helping business owners navigate the complex world of insurance, remembering how difficult it was to find the right cover. This perspective makes him a true advocate, offering not just policies but also invaluable business and claims consultancy to ensure his clients are comprehensively protected.

Martial Arts Australia (MAA)
Peak Industry Body - The Largest Martial Arts Association in Australia.
Over the years many of these types of businesses have diversified by adding new equipment and activities that may not be covered in a standard policy. We call this 'blending' when a martial arts academy introduces a gym section, and or an obstacle course, a cafe and child minding services for example.
The insurer needs to know how each business operates as some activities are not included in a general policy and may need to have them endorsed, so they are included.
This risk ratings vary with a number of factors based upon operating out of a community centre (hourly rental set up) verses, a full-time facility where the owner leases or owns a factory. The style of each martial art is also rated by intensity / contact of the training and by the number of claims from each discipline.

Have you considered getting an INSURANCE HEALTH CHECK on your existing policies?
This may identify if you have doubled up on any coverage, or have any gaps / exposures in your operation, your may even find you are paying too much for your policies. It's vital to review your insurances each year as some Insurer's policy wordings do change, exclusion dropped in and endorsement are added.
Some could be a benefit and others may leave you exposed. The biggest issue Graham has found, is finding clients not having the right cover for their activities while others having insurance they don’t need, mainly due to doubling up on policies.
